This is an outstanding example of an earlier Jumeau French Fashion doll, circa 1875. Her bisque swivel head and shoulderplate are perfect. She is wearing fine all-antique/original clothing with superb boots. Her original kid body is in very good condition. Her antique blond mohair wig is thick and full. She has it all! Here are the details:
Head and Shoulderplate: Her bisque is perfect with no damage or repairs. She has cobalt threaded eyes and her ears are pierced directly into her head in the early manner. Her earrings are missing, but the metal earring loops remain in place, so you could easily add them. She is unmarked, but obviously of Jumeau manufacture, with classic face of the period, typical painting, and domed wooden neck button. Her antique mohair wig has a gauze cap. It is long and full with a braid encircling the head and a snood holding the rest in place. Factory Imperfections: an insignificant bisque bump – and nothing else to report – very fine. Signs of Wear: None!
Body: Her body is the typical Jumeau Deluxe all-kid body with the double-piped V-shaped waist seams. I see a small tear on the torso and there is possibly a teensy repair on one wrist. Gussets look clean and strong!
Clothes: She is wearing very fine all-antique clothing and boots, which are likely original to this doll. Her two-piece dress is a brown linen-like fabric, edged in blue silk. The dress is entirely handstitched. The Bodice is form fitted to the waist, then flares out into a long overskirt. There are piped seams at neckline and sleeves. It has 12 covered buttons running the full length and a matching belt that closes with hook and eye. The matching skirt closes with double hooks and eyes. The hems of the bodice and skirt end in a series of triangular points edged in the blue silk. Underneath, she wears antique unders consisting of half-slip, chemise and pantaloons. She has knee-high antique stockings and very fine antique boots. These boots are obviously original to this doll and are so form-fitted I do not wish to remove them. They lace-up with 14 grommets on each boot. They are edged with a piped seam, have heels, and are marked CC in an oval. Condition: Some of the blue silk trim the bodice and belt is missing and the dress shows minor general age wear. One boot sole is replaced. The overall condition is really very good for the age – a superb all-antique costume.
