OVERVIEW: This is a lovely Papier Mache lady with long side curls and a bun – a so-called Milliner’s Model. She is a lovely lady in very good aged condition and has all-original paint. She has the usual leather body with slender wooden limbs. She wears all-antique clothing. Layaway is always an option, but please contact me prior to purchase to discuss terms. Here are the details:
HEAD: Her Papier Mache head and shoulders are in very good aged condition. She has a center part and each side is pulled into molded hair clips that hold her long curls in place. The back hair has molded brush-strokes that flow into a small braided bun. Her shoulderplate is very deep and she has a slightly molded bosom. She has a nose rub, a little wear in her hair, and some crazing on the shoulderplate. Her paint is all original.
BODY: I cannot photograph her body because her clothing is sewn-on, but I have examined as much as I can. It is the typical Milliner’s Model body-type with firm leather torso and long slender carved wooden limbs. She has black painted shoes. There is a little chipping to the paint on the limbs, but this is the original paint, so this is expected.
CLOTHES: She is wearing all antique clothing that is sewn-on. Her costume appears to be made of scraps – notice that the pattern on the bottom of her skirt is going in a different direction than the rest. It charms me to imagine someone creating this costume for her – probably a child. The skirt is plaid silk and the overskirt and partial bodice are gray silk. A multi-colored patterned fabric is pieced into the front and back of the bodice. She also wears a lace shawl. Underneath, she wears a simple eyelet slip and pantaloons.
